Jean-Pierre Duport Sonata op. 4/6 (first ever recording).
Jean-Pierre Duport was cello teacher to King Frederick William II of Prussia, and it was to him that Mozart – on his journey to Berlin in 1789 – had to apply for an audience with the King. In order to gain Duport's favour, Mozart wrote his variations on a minuet by the cellist – which is a movement of this Sonata in D major op. 4/6.
"Matthias Michael Beckmann performs ... with beautiful phrasing, flawless intonation and a clear, mellow sound. Katrina Crichton provides a masterly and sensitive cello continuo."
"... a recording to be unreservedly recommended" Klassik.com / Andrea Braun / 15.10.2008
